A relaxed start to the year at Great Northern Classics, Derby
The start of a new season always carries a certain energy. After months of rain and winter projects, the Altered Autos Season Opener at Great Northern Classics in Derby felt like a great way to get the year underway.
By mid-morning the car park was already full, with staff finding space wherever they could. Over 150 cars atteneded, for a club that has only been around a couple of years, it was a strong turnout.
Altered Autos leans toward modified and JDM machinery, though the lineup on the day reflected a wider mix. Japanese performance cars sat alongside European builds and classics, each bringing a different approach to the same shared hobby.
One car that caught my eye was a yellow Honda Integra, built in a subtle OEM+ style. Lowered slightly and sitting on rota wheels, the modifications were restrained enough that the car still felt close to factory — just sharper. The paintwork and presentation were exceptionally clean, and could have just rolled off the factory floor.
The morning also included a small celebration for club admin Steven (@thehighskyuk), whose birthday was marked with cake among the parked cars. It was a brief moment away from engines and bodywork, but a reminder of what keeps these clubs going.
Because in the end, meets like this are about more than the cars themselves.
They’re about the people who keep the culture moving.
